Stud Service

We offer stud service to approved outside females via live cover or ship chilled semen. We also have frozen semen available for purchase on all of our studs; Scout, Brewer, Brock, & Major.

All of our studs are routinely tested for brucellosis and all females planning to breed to our studs are required to be tested for brucellosis prior to breeding, no exceptions. Please make sure your female is also up to date on all appropriate vaccinations as well.

Stud Fee; Stud fee for our males is our choice of; pick of litter puppy back or $2500. If we choose stud fee amount of $2500, we expect half at the time of the breeding and the remainder once the litter has been born. If the litter does not take, you will either have the choice to have this amount refunded (boarding expenses for live cover and fresh chilled collection, preparation, packaging, & shipping expenses are not included in this and completely nonrefundable at any time) or have it go towards a future breeding either to the same female or a different approved female.

LIVE COVER PROCESS: If you choose to do live cover then you will need to give us a heads up as soon as your female is in heat. Brucellosis testing results can take up to 5-7 days to get back if it is not in-house, so get your female in to your vet asap to get that sent off. We prefer to have your female progesterone tested with your own veterinarian starting around day 5-7 and keep us updated on those results. Based on the progesterone test, plan to bring her on her best days (about 48 days after ovulation) for 2-3 breeding's. We do have our own progesterone machine and can do progesterone here in house if we need to. You can also do in house progesterone with our own vet, Blue Mountain, in Missoula, MT.

If necessary, we can board your female with us. The boarding fee is $25/day and added to the stud fee (outlined in the contract). We just ask that you bring her food and whatever you feel would make her comfortable during her stay. Your female will not come in to contact with any of our other dogs except the stud dog. With live cover, we will expose your female once a day at least and aim for at least 3 ties.

SHIPPING CHILLED SEMEN: For shipped chilled, not included in the stud fee is the additional cost of collection, preparation, packaging, and shipping of the semen. We charge one total cost of $550 that includes the collection, preparation, packaging, and shipping. FedEx does not ship on Sundays, so we will need to plan around that to make sure we get the best days. We can send directly to you or to your vet.

If you chose to have us ship semen then our first option will be to have it collected, prepared, and packaged by  Blue Mountain Veterinary, Dr. Trevor Ferguson. They are typically very good at squeezing us in last moment but ideally we do need 24-48 hours heads up to be able to give them a heads up and schedule with the vet, so we will need to keep that in mind.

Dr. Ferguson is not in the office on some Fridays or over the weekend, so if we have to collect on those days, the only option is to do the collection and packaging in house, which we have plenty of experience with and we can do.

FROZEN SEMEN: We currently have frozen available on all 3 of our studs; Scout, Brewer, & Brock. We are open to selling for immediate use or selling it for you to store for later use. Either way, the price for this is the $2500 stud fee (we do charge full stud fee up front for frozen) + approximately $200 for frozen semen shipping preparation + approximately $600 shipping frozen semen tank cost. We need at least 72 hours in advance for shipping process. We can are familiar with and can accommodate international freezing & shipping inquiries. You need to be prepared with all of the necessary information.
