Steps to getting one of our puppies!
Please take a moment to view our contracts page and take a look at our sales agreement and health guarantee. Familiarize yourself with the remainder of the information on our website. If you do not agree with or are unwilling to follow the contract then please move on. If you are happy to follow our contract then read on!
If you are interested in one of our puppies please fill out our application located on the Contact/Application Page of this website. After you have filled out our application we will get back to you as soon as we can. Please be aware that we will do a phone call with everyone after we received the application before you are put on the waitlist. If we currently have litters on the ground and/or have a full waitlist, we may take longer to respond than normal. Always feel free to reach out to us again if we have not responded within a reasonable amount of time. Please note that just because you have filled out an application, does not guarantee you a spot on our waitlist. We reserve the right to turn individuals away if we feel they will not make a good home for one of our puppies.
Please do not send any sort of payment before we have spoken on the phone and we have given the go ahead to send payment. For waitlists, we take cash in person, certified check from your bank made out to Kaylynn Donahue, Payment through GoodDog or Venmo (Friends and Family). Final payments MUST be made in the form of cash if you are picking up in person. If you are not picking up in person you may pay in the form of certified check from your bank made out to Kaylynn Donahue or Payment through GoodDog.
We do not take personal checks nor do we do any other online payment option.
Very rarely, do we ever have any puppies currently available. Because of this, we take a waitlist and our puppies are offered to all our pre-approved waitlisters before being offered to the public.
If your application has been approved and we do not have any current available puppies and you are serious about getting one of ours and willing to wait, you will be put on the Waitlist. Please do not ask to get onto our Waitlist if you are still puppy/breeder shopping and not serious or willing to wait for one of ours. We only want to reserve these spots for those that are serious and willing to wait for one of our puppies. Because we have anywhere from 10-12 puppies on average born each litter, this waitlist tends to move quick. There is $100 nonrefundable deposit cost for the Waitlist and you will not be assigned to a specific litter. The purpose of this deposit is to show commitment so we are only spending our time and attention on those seriously interested. This amount will go towards your full purchase price.
We will go down this list in order of when each individual's application was approved each litter to see if anyone is interested in any puppies that were born. Additionally, in the rare event that we have any puppies come available before going home or have any puppies come back to us, they will first be offered to those on our Waitlist before the public. If your name is up on the Waitlist and you are not currently ready or would like to wait for the next litter you may pass and we will move to the next individual. Because we only want those that are serious on our Backup Waitlist, you may pass and continue to stay on the Backup Waitlist for a total of 12 months starting from when you initially got on. If we have spoken beforehand about your desire to wait for a specific time, you will not be contacted until that time. Please do not expect to hear from us until you are up on the Waitlist, however you are more than welcome to check in with us.
Note for all of those interested in any of our waitlists; When we post our Upcoming Litters on our website we are doing our best to anticipate heat cycles and the planned pairings. We make NO GUARANTEE for when a litter is actually going to be born because this is not something we can truly control. Additionally, pairings can change. We breed for ourselves and the future of our program before anyone else. We always make health and temperament our priority! While our litters primarily produce puppies who will mature in the dark golden category, we make no guarantee on color.
Step 3 -Deposit after Puppies are born
After puppies are born and we know exact numbers and genders, we will reach out to those on our Waitlist for any additional puppies available. We will require the full deposit amount of $400 be paid and you send us the contract that has all of the highlighted areas signed and filled out. If you were already on the Waitlist, your $100 deposit for that does go towards the $400. Your spot will not be held until we receive this deposit and your contract. This deposit lets us know that you are seriously interested in one of our puppies and neither of us are wasting each others time.
Step 4- Puppy picks
We reserve the right to first pick of all of our litters, regardless if we put ourselves down on the list or not. While we will ultimately allow you the final pick, we do like to be as helpful as possible to make sure we get the right puppy for each family. Around week 6 I will have a full description and photos of each puppy up on our website on the litter's page to help you get to know each of them a bit better and we will have a discussion on which puppy I was thinking for you and go from there. Picks do need to be finalized by the day that puppies turn 7 weeks of age. If you do not pick on your turn by the time the puppy is 7 weeks old, we will pick for you! By picking by 7 weeks, this allows us to get to know their developing personalities a little more to figure out which puppy will be the right pick for you and still gives us time to find any remaining puppies forever homes if necessary before they are ready to go at 8 weeks. For our waitlist, picks go in order of when the deposit was received. For example; 1st spot for Female & Male will pick, then second spot, then third, etc.
Step 5- Visiting and weekly updates
We do welcome visitors, however we do have full time jobs and lives besides raising puppies so please keep that in mind. After puppies are born we will begin sending out updates and reminders. We will post various pictures/videos and updates throughout the weeks on our Facebook page and website. If you have Facebook, join our page by clicking the link on our home page on this website! That is the best way to keep updated on the litter.
Once puppies are born and we figure out our own schedules, we will schedule times for vet visit day/go home day early on. We will schedule a time for puppies to be picked up around 8 weeks of age, typically on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday as that typically works best for us and our other jobs. If you would like to visit, please let us know and we will try our best to make it work! We do not allow visitation before puppies are 6 weeks of age.
If you visit it is IMPORTANT that you keep in mind that these puppies are not fully vaccinated and are very susceptible to parvo/distemper/ kennel cough, other diseases, all of which are easily spread. PLEASE make sure on the day of visitation you wear clean clothes (including your shoes) and avoid ALL places where dog traffic is higher and there potentially could have been unvaccinated dogs; Vet Office, Dog park, Pet Supply Store, Murdoch's, Home Depot, gas station, etc. We would really prefer you come straight from your house in clean clothes to us and avoid any stops along the way.
Step 6 -Puppies go home and payment balance is due!
A schedule will be made early on after puppies are born when they can begin going to their new homes. This is typically the day they turn 8 weeks old and after they have had their vet visit for their wellness checks. If this day is on a week day and that does not work for you, we can schedule a day during the following weekend. We ask that you make these days work. You will have plenty of notice to the day of their vet visit and day of pickup to make a plan. We do start charging $20 a day when the puppies turn 8 weeks old if they are still here as we will begin one on one training at this point. If you are interested in your puppy staying longer for training take a look at our Puppy Training Program page.
You will be aware of what the price of your puppy is going to be before you even put your holding deposit down. The total amount due will be what is left to be paid after you have put down your deposit or what you have left if you have been doing payments. This amount will be due in cash upon pickup/meet if we are personally meeting you or BEFORE the puppy leaves our home if we are not personally meeting you. Again, we do not take personal checks and your puppy must either be paid for BEFORE it leaves our home with the accepted payment options or in cash upon pickup if you are picking up personally.
On the day of pickup we will be doing the following;
1. Activating the 30 days of free insurance
2. Going through Folder that includes vet record, microchip record, current feeding schedule, etc.
3. Registering your puppy with AKC online. Please be prepared with a registered name and a credit or debit card to pay. If you do not have a registered name, I will make one. (Cost $37.99)
4. Enrolling the microchip with your information. The microchip itself has been implanted and paid for by me and the enrollment cost will be included in AKC Registration.
Please bring with you on the day of pickup;
1. Final payment in the form of cash
2. Registered Name for your puppy (if you do not have one I will make one)
3. Credit or debit card for AKC Registration
3. Crate or warm lap for your puppy to ride home. Some people prefer to let their puppy sit on their lap for the ride home as well but the safer option is for your puppy to ride in a crate.
4. Food/Water and bowls to let your puppy have a snack or drink during the trip. We typically keep food to a minimum on travel day to avoid car sickness but if you are traveling a longer distance this may be necessary.
I will potty your puppy before you get here and I recommend to drive as far as your puppy will sleep. Your puppy pack will include leash, collar, microchip tag, homemade blanket (smells like mama), toys, treats, other fun goodies and information packets. It will be your responsibility to purchase food for your puppy prior to bringing him/her home. Take a look at our Checklist and Recommended Products to help you prepare!
Again, it is IMPORTANT that you keep in mind that these puppies are not fully vaccinated and are very susceptible to parvo/distemper/ kennel cough, other diseases, all of which are easily spread. PLEASE make sure on the day of pickup you wear clean clothes (including your shoes) and avoid ALL places where dog traffic is higher and there potentially could have been unvaccinated dogs; Vet Office, Dog park, Pet Supply Store, Murdoch's, Home Depot, gas station, etc. We would really prefer you come straight from your house in clean clothes to us and avoid any stops along the way.
